CONDITION OF MEMBER BANKS IN LEADING CITIES Aggregate r e d u c t i o n s of $55,000,000 in l o a n s and i n v e s t m e n t s , of $29,000,000 in net demand d e p o s i t s and of $54,000,000 i n accommodation a t t h e F e d e r a l r e s e r v e banks a r e shown i n t h e F e d e r a l Reserve B o a r d ' s weekly c o n s o l i d a t e d s t a t e m e n t of c o n d i t i o n on November 7 of about 767 member banks i n l e a d i n g c i t i e s . All c l a s s e s of loans show r e d u c t i o n s from l a s t w e e k ' s f i g u r e s : Loans secured by U. S. Government o b l i g a t i o n s by about $4,000,000, l o a n s secured by c o r p o r a t e s t o c k s and bonds - by $7,000,000, and a l l . <Sfcher, l a r g e l y commercial, loans and d i s c o u n t s - $12,000,000. Investments of a l l r e p o r t i n g banks show a d e c l i n e of $32,000,000, of which $9,000,000 was i n U. S. Government s e c u r i t i e s and $23,000,000 in " o t h e r bonds, s t o c k s and s e c u r i t i e s . " T o t a l loans and d i s c o u n t s of member banks in New York C i t y show a r e d u c t i o n of $40,000,000; loans on c o r p o r a t e s e c u r i t i e s - by $24,000,000 and " a l l o t h e r " l a r g e l y commercial, loans and d i s c o u n t s - by $17,000,000, while loans on U. S. Government s e c u r i t i e s show a nominal i n c r e a s e . Investments of t h e s e banks decreased, by $18,000,000, t h e l a r g e r d e c r e a s e of $21,000,000 i n c o r p o r a t e s t o c k s and bonds being p a r t l y o f f s e t by a small i n c r e a s e i n United S t a t e s s e c u r i t i e s . Net demand d e p o s i t s of a l l r e p o r t i n g members declined by $29,000,000. For the banks in the New York d i s t r i c t , a d e c l i n e of $41,000,000 i s shown, f o r t h e San Franc i s c o d i s t r i c t - $16,000,000, f o r t h e Boston d i s t r i c t - $11,000,000, and f o r the Cleveland d i s t r i c t - $10,000,000. The l a r g e s t i n c r e a s e s of $17,000,000 and $16,000,000, r e s p e c t i v e l y , a r e r e p o r t e d by the Chicago and P h i l a d e l p h i a d i s t r i c t s . The Richmond d i s t r i c t r e p o r t s an i n c r e a s e of $9,000,000, and the A t l a n t a d i s t r i c t an i n c r e a s e of $7,000,000.
