BOARD OF GOVERNORS OF THE FEDERAL RESERVE SYSTEM H.4.2 (For Immediate Release) ^ CONDITION OF WEEKLY REPORTING MEMBER BANKS IN LEADING CITIES The condition statement of weekly reporting member banks in leading cities shows the following principal changes for the week ended April 30: An increase of $441 million in holdings of U. S, Government securities; decreases of1315 million in reserve balances with Federal Reserve Banks and $669 million in demand d#* piOaita Mjustedj and,.an increase of 0791 million in U„S, Government deposit^. Commercial and industrial loans decreased in all but two districts and a total of $79 million at all reporting member banks? the principal decreases were $26 million in Chicago, $11 million in the Cleveland District, and $10 million in the New York District. Changes according to industry appear in another press release, "Other" loans increased $43 million. Holdings of all categories of U, S. Government securities increased: Treasury bills by $228 million, Treasury certificates of indebtedness $20 million, Treasury notes $95 million, and U» S. Government bonds by $98 million. Holdings of "other" securities increased $31 million, Demand deposits adjusted decreased $332 million in New York City, $153 million in the San Francisco District, $52 million in the Boston District, and $48 million in the St. Louis District, but they increased $52 million in Chicago. Time deposits increased $117, Borrowings from Federal Reserve Banks decreased $127 million and borrowings from others decreased $253 million.
