CONDITION OF MEMBER BANKS IN LEADING CITIES The Federal Reserve Board's weekly c o n d i t i o n statement of "JOS r e p o r t i n g member bank* i n l e a d i n g c i t i e s as of April 25 shows a n i n c r e a s e of $78,000,000 i n loans and d i s c o u n t s and a decrease of $3,000,000 i n investments. These changes were accompanied by i n c r e a s e s of $15,000,000 i n net demand d e p o s i t s , $9,000,000 in time d e p o s i t s and $55,000,000 i n borrowings from the Fedaral r e s e r v e banks. Member banks i n New York City r e p o r t e d an i n c r e a s e of $50,000,000 i n l o a n s and discounts and a r e d u c t i o n of $5,000,000 i n investments, t o g e t h e r w i t h i n c r e a s e s of $27,000,000 i n net demand d e p o s i t s and $79,000,000 i n borrowings from the Federal reserve bank. Loans on stocks and bonds were $27,000,000 i n excess of the amount reported a week ago, the p r i n c i p a l changes i n t h i s item being an i n c r e a s e of $56,000,000 i n the New York d i s t r i c t and a r e d u c t i o n of $16,000,000 i n the Chicago d i s t r i c t . "All o t h e r " l o a n s and d i s c o u n t s increased $49,COO,000, of which $25,000,000 was reported by banks i n the New York d i s t r i c t and $15,000,000 by banks i n the Chicago d i s t r i c t . Total l o a n s t o brokers and d e a l e r s , secured by stocks and bonds, made by r e p o r t i n g member banks i n New York City declined $1,000,000, l o a n s f o r the account of out of town banks being $21,000,000 l e s s tn&n a week ago, while loans f o r t h e i r own account and f o r account of o t h e r s were $12,000,000 and $5,000,000 r e s p e c t i v e l y , above the amount r e p o r t e d the previous week. Holdings of U. S. s e c u r i t i e s were $11,000,000 l e s s and holdings of other bonds, stocks and s e c u r i t i e s $8,000,000 more than a week ago, only s l i g h t changes being r e p o r t e d f o r any of the d i s t r i c t s . . Net demand d e p o s i t s increased $15,000,000, i n c r e a s e s of $29,000,000 i n the 4cw York d i s t r i c t and $7,000,000 i n the St. Louis d i s t r i c t being p a r t l y o f f s e t by rud-actions in o t h e r d i s t r i c t ? , p a r t i c u l a r l y Kansas City, D a l l a s and San F r a n c i s c o .
