CONDITION OF WEEKLY REPORTING MEMBER BANKS IN LEADING CITIES
The condition statement of weekly reporting member banks in 101 leading c i t i e s
shows the f o l l o w i n g p r i n c i p a l changes f o r the week ended April 30j Increases of
$131,000,000 i n loans and $222,000,000 i n demand d e p o s i t s adjusted, and a decrease
of $139,000,000 i n United S t a t e s Government d e p o s i t s .
Commercial, i n d u s t r i a l , and a g r i c u l t u r a l loans d e c l i n e d $2^,000,000. Loans t o
brokers and d e a l e r s f o r purchasing or carrying United S t a t e s Government and other
s e c u r i t i e s increased $108,000,000; these i n c r e a s e s were mostly i n New York City.
Loans t o banks increased $61*, 000,000 and "other loans" increased $2$,000,000.
Holdings of Treasury b i l l s d e c l i n e d $238,000,000 i n New York C i t y and
$210,000,000 a t a l l reporting member banks, and increased $107,000,000 i n the
Chicago D i s t r i c t . Holdings of Treasury c e r t i f i c a t e s of indebtedness increased
$9^,000,000 i n New York City and $07,000,000 at a l l reporting member banks.
Demand d e p o s i t s adjusted increased i n most of the d i s t r i c t s ; the p r i n c i p a l
i n c r e a s e s were $106,000,000 i n the Chicago D i s t r i c t , $59,000,000 i n ew York C i t y ,
$25,000,000 i n the Dallas D i s t r i c t , .and $2$,000,000 i n the San Francisco D i s t r i c t .
United S t a t e s Government deposits declined i n a l l d i s t r i c t s .
Demand d e p o s i t s c r e d i t e d t o domestic banks increased i n s i x d i s t r i c t s and
decreased i n the other s i x ; the p r i n c i p a l changes were i n c r e a s e s of $40,000,000 and
$30,000,000 i n the Chicago D i s t r i c t and New York C i t y , r e s p e c t i v e l y , and decreases
of $23,000,000 and $19,000,000 i n the Dallas and Kansas C i t y d i s t r i c t s , r e s p e c t i v e l y ;
the n e t increase at a l l reporting member banks was $ 1 3 , 0 0 0 , 0 0 0 .
Borrowings increased $59,000,000 i n New York C i t y and $5^,000,000 a t a l l reporting member banks and declined $8,000,000 i n the Minneapolis D i s t r i c t .
