Form FR-284 STATEMENT FOR THE PRESS For immediate release Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System May 6, 1940 Condition of Weekly Reporting Member Banks in 101 Leading Cities The condition statement of weekly reporting member banks in 101 leading cities shows the following principal changes for the week ended May 1: Decreases of $10,000,000 in commercial, industrial, and agricultural loans, $38,000,000 in holdings of "Other securities", and $68,000,000 in demand deposits-adjusted. Holdings of United States Treasury bills decreased $21,000,000 in the Chicago district, $9,000,000 in the Minneapolis district and $3,000,000 at all reporting member banks, and increased $22,000,000 in Hew York City* Holdings of United States Government bonds decreased $21,000,000 in Hew York City and $12,000,000 at all reporting member banks. Holdings of "Other securities" decreased $32,000,000 in New York City and $38,000,000 at all reporting member banks# Demand deposits-adjusted decreased $39,000,000 in Hew York City, $31,000,000 in the Minneapolis district, and $68,000,000 at all reporting member banks. Tine deposits decreased $8,000,000. Deposits credited to domestic banks increased $13,000,000 in New York City and $28,000,000 at all reporting member banks. Deposits credited to foreign banks decreased $13,000,000 in New York City.
