CONDITION OF 'WEEKLY REPORTING MEMBER BANKS IN LEADING CITIES
The condition statement of weekly reporting member "banks in leading cities shows
the following principal changes for the week ended April 2J:
Decreases of $236 million
in loans adjusted, $196 million in holdings of U. S. Government securities, $583 million
in demand deposits adjusted, and $608 million in demand deposits credited to domestic
banks, and an increase of $537 million in U. S. Government demand deposits.
Commercial and industrial loans decreased in eight districts and a total of $46 million. Loans to "brokers and dealers for purchasing or carrying U. S. Government and other
securities decreased $291 million. "Other"loans increased $00 million.
Holdings of Treasury bills decreased $125 million and the combined total of Treasury
notes and U« S. Government bonds decreased $74 million. • Holdings of "other" securities
decreased $118 million.
Interbank time deposits increased $80 million, of which $60 million was in New York
City. Time deposits except interbank increased $52 million.
Borrowings of weekly reporting member banks from Federal Reserve Banks increased
$136 million and borrowings from others increased $33 million. Loans to domestic commercial banks increased $186 million.
