CONDITION OF WEEKLY REPORTING MEMBER BANKS IN LEADING CITIES

The condition statement of weekly reporting member banks in leading cities
shows the following principal changes for the week ended April 27: An increase of
$356 million in demand deposits adjusted and a decrease of $36l million in demand
deposits credited to domestic banks.
Commercial, industrial, and agricultural loans increased $31 million in New
York City and decreased $21* million in Chicago? there was a net increase of $15
million at all reporting member banks, Changes according to industry appear in
another press release. Loans to brokers and dealers for purchasing or carrying
securities decreased $81 million. Real estate loans increased $28 million. "Other"
loans increased $62 million at all reporting member banks.
Holdings of Treasury bills increased $19 million; the principal changes were
an increase of $132 million in New York City and a decrease of $39 million in the
Kansas City District, Holdings of Treasury certificates of indebtedness decreased
$80 million, of which $28 million was in the San Francisco District and $27 million
in New York City, Holdings of Treasury notes decreased $27 million. Holdings of
"other" securities decreased $37 million.
Demand deposits adjusted increased $213 million in New York City, $108 million
in the Chicago District, and $62 million in the Cleveland District, but they decreased $1*7 million in the New York District outside of New York City.
Borrowings decreased $126 million in Chicago but they increased by smaller
amounts in nine districts, resulting in a net increase of $35 million at all
reporting member banks. Loans to banks increased $139 million,
