CONDITION OF WEEKLY REPORTING MEMBER BANKS IN LEADING CITIES
The condition statement of weekly reporting member banks in leading c i t i e s
shows the following p r i n c i p a l changes f o r the week ended April 27: Decreases of
Slit2,000,000 in commercial, i n d u s t r i a l , and a g r i c u l t u r a l loans,
000,000 in
reserve balances with Federal Reserve Banks, $238,000,000 in United States Government deposits, $311,000,000 in demand deposits credited to domestic banks, and
$168,000,000 in borrowings, and an increase of $Ul8,000,000 in demand deposits
adjusted.
Commercial, i n d u s t r i a l , and a g r i c u l t u r a l loans decreased in most of the d i s t r i c t s ; the p r i n c i p a l decreases were $71,000,000 in New York City, $19,000,000 in
the San Francisco D i s t r i c t , $15,000,000 in Chicago, and $10,000,000 in the Cleveland
D i s t r i c t . Loans to banks increased $38,000,000.
Holdings of Treasury b i l l s increased $180,000,000 in New York City and a t o t a l
of $161,000,000 a t a l l reporting member banks. Holdings of Treasury c e r t i f i c a t e s
of indebtedness increased $7,000,000. Holdings of Treasury notes decreased
$17,000,000. Holdings of United States Government bonds increased $21,000,000 in
the Philadelphia D i s t r i c t and a t o t a l of $35,000,000 at a l l reporting member banks.
Demand deposits adjusted increased in nearly a l l d i s t r i c t s ; the p r i n c i p a l i n creases were $150,000,000 in New York City, $105,000,000 in the Chicago D i s t r i c t ,
$U7,000,000 in the Cleveland D i s t r i c t , and $^2,000,000 in the San Francisco Dist r i c t . United States Government deposits decreased $62,000,000 in New York City,
$U3,000,000 in the Chicago D i s t r i c t , and by smaller amounts in the other d i s t r i c t s .
Demand deposits credited to domestic banks decreased in a l l d i s t r i c t s .
Borrowings decreased $l8b,000,000 in New York City, $30,000,000 in the
Cleveland D i s t r i c t and a t o t a l of $168,000,000 at a l l reporting member banks.
