BOARD OF GOVERNORS OF THE FEDERAL RESERVE SYSTEM H.4.2 (For Immediate Release) May 31, 1950 CONDITION OF WEEKLY REPORTING MEMBER BANKS IN LEADING CITIES The condition statement of weekly reporting member banks in leading cities shows the following principal changes for the week ended May 24: Increases of $140,000,000 in loans, $143,000,000 in holdings of United States Government securities, and $465,000,000 in demand deposits adjusted, and a decrease of $531,000,000 in demand deposits credited to domestic banks. Commercial, industrial, and agricultural loans decreased $15,000,000 in the San r ^ « S n ° « D i S t r i C t ' $9,000,000 in Chicago, $8,000,000 in New York City, and a total of $10,000,000 at all reporting member banks. "Other loans" increased $48,000,000, Holdings of Treasury bills increased $83,000,000 in New York City, $46,000,000 Chicago District and $28,000,000 in the New York District outside of New York y, and decreased $23,000,000 each in the Richmond and Atlanta districts; there was a net increase of $88,000,000 at all reporting member banks. Holdings of United States Government bonds increased $57,000,000. Demand deposits adjusted increased $282,000,000 in New York City, $82,000,000 in Chicago and $31,000,000 in the St. Louis District. Time deposits increased $61,000,000, of which $41,000,000 was interbank. United States Government deposits decreased $57,000,000. Demand deposits credited to domestic banks decreased in all districts.
