CONDITION OF WEEKLY REPORTING MEMBER BANKS IN LEADING CITIES

The condition statement of weekly reporting member banks in leading cities
shows the following principal changes for the week ended May 16: Increases of
$120,000,000 in loans, $180,000,000 in reserve balances with Federal Reserve Banks,
$217,000,000 in balances with domestic banks, $231,000,000 in United States Government deposits, $335,000,000 in demand deposits credited to domestic banks, and
$206,000,000 in borrowings, and a decrease of $224,000,000 in demand deposits
adjusted.
Commercial, industrial, and agricultural loans increased in six districts and
decreased in the other six; the principal changes were increases of $55,000,000 in
New York City and $23,000,000 in the San Francisco District, and there was a net
increase of $69,000,000 at all reporting member banks*
Holdings of Treasury bills increased in most districts and a total of
$101,000,000 at all reporting member banks; the principal increases were $36,000,000
in the Chicago District outside of Chicago and $22,000,000 in the Kansas City District. Holdings of United States Government bonds decreased $61,000,000 in New York
City, and increased $36,000,000 in Chicago and $30,000,000 in the San Brandsco
District; there was a net decrease of £>35,000,000 at all reporting member banks*
Demand deposits adjusted decreased $206,000,000 in New York City and
$88,000,000 in Chicago, and increased $61,000,000 in the Kansas City District and
$55,000,000 in the Chicago District outside of Chicago. United States Government
deposits and demand deposits credited to domestic banks increased in all districts.
Borrowings increased $198,000,000 in New York City and $36,000,000 in Chicago.
