STATEMENT FOE THE PRESS

CONDITION OF WEEKLY REPORTING MEMBER BALES IN LEADING CITIES
The Federal Reserve Board's condition statement of weekly reporting member
banks in 91 leading c i t i e s on May 15 shows increases f o r the week of $145,000,000
in net demand d e p o s i t s , $10,000,000 in time d e p o s i t s and $78,000,000 in reserve
balances with Federal Reserve "banks, and decreases of $76,000,000 in t o t a l loans
and investments and $62,000,000 in Government d e p o s i t s .
Loans on s e c u r i t i e s to brokers and dealers in New York and outside New York,
r e s p e c t i v e l y , declined $7,000,000 each, and loans on s e c u r i t i e s to others increased
$3,000,000 i n the New York d i s t r i c t , $6,000,000 in the San Francisco d i s t r i c t and
$14,000,000 a t a l l reporting member banks. Holdings of acceptances and commercial
paper bought in open market and r e a l e s t a t e loans showed l i t t l e change f o r the
week, and "other loans" increased $21,000,000 in the New York d i s t r i c t and
$13,000,000 a t a l l reporting member banks,
Holdings of United S t a t e s Government d i r e c t o b l i g a t i o n s declined $21,000,000
in the New York d i s t r i c t , $19,000,000 i n the Chicago d i s t r i c t , $10,000,000 in the
Kansas City d i s t r i c t and $49,000,000 at a l l reporting member banks; holdings of
o b l i g a t i o n s f u l l y guaranteed by the United S t a t e s Government declined $7,000,000;
and holdings of other s e c u r i t i e s declined $42,000,000 i n the New York d i s t r i c t
and $40,000,000 a t a l l reporting member banks.
Licensed member banks formerly included in the condition statement of member
banks in 101 leading c i t i e s , but not now included in the weekly statement, had
t o t a l loans and investments of $ l , 2 b 2 , 0 0 0 , 0 0 0 , and net demand, time and Government
deposits of $1,471,000,000 on May.15, compared with $1,253,000,000 and
$1,4571000,000, r e s p e c t i v e l y , on May 8 .

banks, in 91 leading c i t i e s , that are now included in the statement, together with
changes for the week and the year ended May 15, 1935, f o l l o w s :
