L i q u i d a t i o n of $57,000,000 of l o a n s and d i s c o u n t s and of $36,000,000 of i n v e s t m e n t s , l a r g e l y of c o r p o r a t e s e c u r i t i e s , accomp a n i e d by a r e d u c t i o n of $27,000,000 i n borrowings from t h e F e d e r a l Reserve banks, i s i n d i c a t e d by the weekly statement of c o n d i t i o n on May 11 of 821 member banks i n l e a d i n g c i t i e s . Loans secured by U n i t e d S t a t e s o b l i g a t i o n s show a r e d u c t i o n f o r the week of $7,000,000, l o a n s s e c u r e d by s t o c k s and bonds - a dec r e a s e of $ 4 , 0 0 0 , 0 0 0 , and o t h e r l o a n s and d i s c o u n t s - a decrease of $46,000,000• For the New York C i t y member banks, c o r r e s p o n d i n g r e d u c t i o n s of $7,000,000, $8,000,000 and $21,000,000. a r e n o t e d .
