CONDITION OF WEEKLY REPORTING MEMBER BANKS IN LEADING CITIES
The Federal Reserve Board's condition statement of weekly reporting member
"banks in 91 leading c i t i e s on May 8 shows decreases for the week of $171,000,000 in
total loans and investments, $171,000,000 i n net demand deposits, $17,000,000 in
time deposits and $71,000,000 in Government d e p o s i t s , and an increase of
$24,000,000 i n reserve balances with Federal Reserve banks.

Loans on s e c u r i t i e s to brokers and dealers in New York declined $62,000,000 a t
reporting member banks in the New York d i s t r i c t and at a l l reporting member banks;
loans to brokers and dealers outside New York declined $5,000,000 each in the
Boston and Chicago d i s t r i c t s and $14,000,000 at a l l reporting member banks; and
loans on s e c u r i t i e s to others declined $8,000,000 in the New York d i s t r i c t ,
$6,000,000 in the San Francisco d i s t r i c t and $21,000,000 at a l l reporting banks.
Holdings of acceptances and commercial paper bought in open market and real estate
loans showed l i t t l e net changes f o r the week; and "other loans" declined
$19,000,000 in the New York d i s t r i c t , $5,000,000 in the Boston d i s t r i c t and
$19,000,000 at a l l reporting member banks, and increased $5,000,000 in the Cleve, land d i s t r i c t ,
Holdings of United States Government d i r e c t obligations declined $71,000,000 in
the New York d i s t r i c t , $9,000,000 i n the San Francisco d i s t r i c t and $6,000,000 in
the Philadelphia d i s t r i c t , and increased $30,000,000 i n the S t . Louis d i s t r i c t ,
$14,000,000 i n the Boston d i s t r i c t , $12,000,000 in the Dallas d i s t r i c t and
$11,000,000 in the Chicago d i s t r i c t , a l l reporting member banks showing a net r e duction of $25,000,000 f o r the week; holdings of obligations f u l l y guaranteed by
the United States Government declined §3,000,000; and holdings of other s e c u r i t i e s
declined $35»000,000 in the New York d i s t r i c t and $25,000,000 at a l l reporting membar banks.
Licensed member banks formerly included i n the condition statement of member
banks in 101 leading c i t i e s , but not now included in the weekly statement, had
t o t a l loans and investments of $1,253,000,000 and net demand, time and Government
deposits of $1,457,000,000 on May 8, compared with $1,233»000,000 and
$1,421,000,000, r e s p e c t i v e l y , on May 1.
