1.4.2 BOARD OF GOVERNORS OF THE FEDERAL RESERVE SYSTEM (For Immediate Release) May 11, 196© CONDITION OF WEEKLY REPORTING MEMBER BANKS IN LEADING CITIES The condition statement of weekly reporting member 'banks in leading cities shows the following principal changes for the week ended May 4; Increases of $217 million in loans adjusted, $314 million in reserve balances with Federal Reserve Banks, $1,353 million in U. S. Government demand deposits, and $524 million in demand deposits credited to domestic "banks, and a decrease of $1,700 million in demand deposits adjusted. Commercial and industrial loans increased in most districts and a total of $73 million. Loans to sales and personal finance institutions increased $187 million hut loans to other noribank financial institutions decreased $36 million. Holdings of Treasury bills decreased $122 million and holdings of "other" securities decreased $167 million. Borrowings of weekly reporting member banks from Federal Reserve Banks decreased $17 million and borrowings from others decreased $2 million. Loans to domestic commercial banks decreased $23 million.
