STATEMENT FOR THE PRESS B-261 For immediate release Federal Reserve Board March 9, 1931. CONDITION OF WEEKLY REPORTING MEMBER BANKS IN LEADING CITIES The Federal Reserve Board's condition statement of weekly reporting member banks in leading c i t i e s on March 4 shows decreases for the week of $26,000,000 in loans and investments, $100,000,000 in net demand deposits and $51,000,000 in Government deposits, and increases of $14,000,000 in time deposits and $5,000,000 in "borrowings from Federal reserve banks. Loans on s e c u r i t i e s declined $36,000,000 at reporting banks in the Chicago d i s t r i c t , $12,000,000 in the San Francisco d i s t r i c t and $4-0,000,000 at a l l r e porting banks, and increased $20,000,000 in the New York d i s t r i c t . "All other" loans increased $11,000,000 in the Boston d i s t r i c t , $9,000,000 in the San Francisco d i s t r i c t , $6,000,000 in the Philadelphia d i s t r i c t and $17,000,000 at a l l reporting banks, and declined $8,000,000 in the New York d i s t r i c t . Holdings of U. S. Government s e c u r i t i e s increased $l4,000,000 in the New York d i s t r i c t , $9,000,000 in the Cleveland d i s t r i c t , $6,000,000 in the San Francisco d i s t r i c t and $30,000,000 at a l l reporting banks. Holdings of other s e c u r i t i e s declined $50,000,000 in the New York d i s t r i c t and $33,000,000 at a l l r e p o r t ing banks. Borrowings of weekly reporting member banks from Federal reserve banks aggregated $47,000,000 on March 4, the principal change for the week being an increase of $5,000,000 at the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco.
