H.1u2 BOARD OF GOVERNORS OF THE FEDERAL RESERVE SYSTEM (For Immediate Release) March 7, 1951 CONDITION OF WEEKLY REPORTING MEMBER BANKS IN LEADING CITIES The condition statement of weekly reporting member banks in leading cities shows the following principal changes for the week ended February 281 A decrease of $109,000,000 in holdings of United States Government securities, and increases of #312,000,000 in loans, |192,000,000 in reserve balances with Ftederal Reserve Banks,'*$158,000,000 in demand deposits adjusted, $126,000,000 in United States Government deposits, and $186,000,000 in borrowings. Commercial, industrial, and agricultural loans increased in most districts and a total of $ll*5,000,000 at all reporting member banks; the principal increase was $88,000,000 in New York City. Loans to brokers and dealers for purchasing or carrying United States Government and other securities increased $123,000,000. "Other loans" increased $31,000,000. Holdings of Treasury bills increased $70,000,000 in New York City and a total of $72,000,000 at all reporting member banks. Holdings of Treasury notes decreased $63,000,000 in the San Francisco District and a total of $113,000,000 at all reporting member banks. Holdings of United states Government bonds decreased in most districts and a total of $68,000,000 at all reporting member banks; the principal changes were decreases of $53,000,000 in the San Francisco District and >23,000,000 in the Minneapolis District, and an increase of $71,000,000 in New York City* Holdings of "other securities" increased $59,000,000 in New York City and a total of $67,000,000 at all reporting member banks.
