Condition of Weekly Reporting Member Banks in 101 Leading C i t i e s

For immediate r e l e a s e

The condition statement of weekly reporting member banks i n 101 leading c i t i e s
on March 25 shows decreases f o r the week of $26,000,000 in t o t a l loans and i n v e s t ments, $81,000,000 in reserve balances with Federal Reserve banks, $24,000,000 in
demand deposits-adjusted, and $124,000,000 in deposit balances standing to the
c r e d i t of domestic banks,
loans to brokers and d e a l e r s in New York City declined $45,000,000, loans to
brokers and dealers outside New York City $11,000,000, and loans on s e c u r i t i e s to
others (except banks) $3,000,000, Holdings of acceptances and commercial paper
bought declined $3,000,000, r e a l e s t a t e loans increased $4,000,000, loans to banks
declined $6,000,000, and "Other loans" increased $6,000,000 in the Chicago d i s t r i c t
and $18,000,000 a t a l l reporting member banks.
Holdings of United S t a t e s Government d i r e c t obligations increased $13,000,000
in the New York d i s t r i c t and $11,000,000 in the Atlanta d i s t r i c t , and declined
$30,000,000 i n the Chicago d i s t r i c t and $5,000,000 a t a l l reporting member banks.
Holdings of o b l i g a t i o n s f u l l y guaranteed by the United States Government increased
$13,000,000 i n the New York d i s t r i c t and $7,000,000 a t a l l reporting member banks.
Holdings of "Other s e c u r i t i e s " increased $20,000,000 in the New York d i s t r i c t and
$18,000,000 a t a l l r e p o r t i n g member banks.
Demand deposits-adjusted increased $35,000,000 in the New York d i s t r i c t and
$12,000,000 in the S t . Louis d i s t r i c t , and declined $42,000,000 i n the Chicago d i s t r i c t , $19,000,000 in the Cleveland d i s t r i c t , $11,000,000 in the San Francisco d i s t r i c t and $24,000,000 a t a l l reporting member banks. Time deposits declined
$6,000,000 in the San Francisco d i s t r i c t . United States Government deposits declined $8,000,000. Deposits balances of other domestic banks declined $85,000,000
i n the New York d i s t r i c t and $124,000,000 a t a l l reporting member banks,
