CONDITION OF WEEKLY REPORTING MEMBER BANKS IN IMPING CITIES
The c o n d i t i o n statement of weekly r e p o r t i n g member banks i n l e a d i n g c i t i e s
shows t h e f o l l o w i n g p r i n c i p a l changes f o r the week ended February 25; An increase
of $157,000,000 i n l o a n s , decreases of $553,000,000 i n holdings of United S t a t e s
Government s e c u r i t i e s and $275,000,000 i n demand d e p o s i t s c r e d i t e d t o domestic
banks, and an i n c r e a s e of $150,000,000 i n demand d e p o s i t s a d j u s t e d .
C o m m e r c i a l , i n d u s t r i a l , and a g r i c u l t u r a l loans decreased $13,000,000 i n the
Chicago D i s t r i c t , $11,000,000 each i n the New York and San F r a n c i s c o d i s t r i c t s , and
$28,000,000 a t a l l r e p o r t i n g member banks. Loans f a r purchasing o r c a r r y i n g
United S t a t e s Government and o t h e r s e c u r i t i e s increased $155,000,000, l a r g e l y i n
New York C i t y .
Holdings of United S t a t e s Government bonds decreased $106,000,000 i n New York
C i t y , $28,000,000 i n t h e Chicago D i s t r i c t , and $11*9,000,000 a t a l l r e p o r t i n g member
banks. Holdings of Treasury c e r t i f i c a t e s of indebtedness decreased $50,000,000 i n
the San F r a n c i s c o D i s t r i c t and $92,000,000 a t a l l r e p o r t i n g member banks. Holdings
of Treasury b i l l s and notes decreased $5U,000,000 and $58,000,000, r e s p e c t i v e l y .
Demand d e p o s i t s a d j u s t e d decreased $13k,000,000 i n t h e San F r a n c i s c o D i s t r i c t
and i n c r e a s e d i n most of the pther d i s t r i c t s ; the p r i n c i p a l i n c r e a s e s were
$103,000,000 i n New York C i t y , $86,000,000 i n t h e Chicago D i s t r i c t , $36,000,000 i n
t h e Richmond D i s t r i c t , and $35,000,000 i n the P h i l a d e l p h i a D i s t r i c t . Time d e p o s i t s
increased $23,000,000 i n t h e San Francisco D i s t r i c t , $16,000,000 i n the P h i l a d e l p h i a
D i s t r i c t , and $h§>,000,000 a t a l l r e p o r t i n g member banks. Demand d e p o s i t s c r e d i t e d
t o domestic banks decreased i n a l l d i s t r i c t s .
Borrowings decreased $22,000,000 i n t h e P h i l a d e l p h i a D i s t r i c t and $33,000,000
a t a l l r e p o r t i n g member banks.
