H.1+.2 BOARD OF GOVERNORS OF THE FEDERAL RESERVE SYSTEM (For Immediate Release) March 28, 1951 CONDITION OF WEEKLY REPORTING MEMBER BANKS IN LEADING CITIES The condition statement of weekly reporting member banks in leading cities shows the following principal changes for the week ended March 21* Increases of $5ll*,000,000 in loans, $502,000,000 in holdings of Treasury bills, and $2,265,000,000 in United States Government deposits, and decreases of $1,505,000,000 in demand deposits adjusted, and $1+91,000,000 in demand deposits credited to domestic banks* Commercial, industrial, and agricultural loans increased in most districts, and a total of $217,000,000 at all reporting member banks; the principal increases were $78,000,000 in New York City, $1+3,000,000 in the San Francisco District, and $23,000,000 in the Boston District, Loans to brokers and dealers for purchasing or carrying securities other than Government securities increased $150,000,000. Real estate loans increased $26,000,000. Holdings of Treasury bills increased $292,000,000 in New York City, $123,000,000 in the Chicago District, $7^,000,000 in the San Francisco District, $22,000,000 in the Cleveland District, $17,000,000 in the Boston District, but they decreased $18,000,000 in the Atlanta District. Holdings of Treasury notes and of United States Government bonds decreased $55,000,000 and $31,000,000, respectively, at all reporting member banks. Demand deposits adjusted decreased $876,000,000 in New York City, $197,000,000 in the Chicago District, $161,000,000 in the Cleveland District, $7^,000,000 in the New York District outside of New York City, and by smaller amounts in most of the other districts. United States Government deposits increased and demand deposits credited to domestic banks decreased in all districts. Borrowings increased $118,000,000 in New York City and a total of $181,000,000 at all reporting member banks.
