CONDITION OF WEEKLY REPORTING MEMBER BANKS IN LEADING CITIES

The c o n d i t i o n s t a t e m e n t of weekly r e p o r t i n g member banks i n l e a d i n g c i t i e s
shows t h e f o l l o w i n g p r i n c i p a l changes f o r t h e week ended March 20: I n c r e a s e s of
$739 m i l l i o n i n commercial and i n d u s t r i a l l o a n s , $393 m i l l i o n i n h o l d i n g s of
T r e a s u r y b i l l s , and $2,106 m i l l i o n i n U. S, Government d e p o s i t s , and a d e c r e a s e
o f $ 1 , 2 0 1 m i l l i o n i n demand d e p o s i t s a d j u s t e d .
Commercial and i n d u s t r i a l l o a n s i n c r e a s e d i n a l l d i s t r i c t s ; t h e p r i n c i p a l
i n c r e a s e s were $376 m i l l i o n i n New York C i t y , $107 m i l l i o n i n Chicago, $66 m i l l i o n i n t h e San F r a n c i s c o D i s t r i c t , and $59 m i l l i o n i n t h e Cleveland D i s t r i c t *
The c u r r e n t i n c r e a s e compares w i t h an i n c r e a s e of $403 m i l l i o n i n t h e p r e v i o u s
week, which a l s o i n c l u d e d l o a n s f o r q u a r t e r l y t a x d a t e n e e d s . Changes a c c o r d i n g
t o i n d u s t r y appear i n a n o t h e r p r e s s r e l e a s e . Holdings of " o t h e r " l o a n s i n c r e a s e d
$40 m i l l i o n .
