CONDITION OF WEEKLY REPORTING- MEMBER BANKS IN LEADING CITIES
The Federal Reserve Board's condition statement of weekly r e p o r t i n g member
banks in 101 leading c i t i e s oil March 20 shows increases f o r the week of
$122,000,000 i n loans, of $75<000,000 in investments and of $299,000,000 in Government d e p o s i t s , and decreases of $117,000,000 in net demand d e p o s i t s , of
$50,000,000 in time d e p o s i t s and of $5,000,000 in borrowings from Federal reserve
hanks.
Loans on s e c u r i t i e s increased $131,000,000 at a l l r e p o r t i n g "banks,
$91,000,000 in the New York d i s t r i c t , $27,000,000 in the Chicago d i s t r i c t ,
$11,000,000 in the Cleveland d i s t r i c t , $7,000,000 in the P h i l a d e l p h i a d i s t r i c t and
$6,000,000 in the.^gston d i s t r i c t . "All other" loans increased $17,000,000 a t r e porting "banks in/New York d i s t r i c t , and declined $26,000,000 in the Chicago d i s t r i c t and $8,000,000 a t a l l r e p o r t i n g "banks.
Holdings of U. S. Government s e c u r i t i e s , largely i n connection with the
Treasury's q u a r t e r l y f i n a n c i a l operations, increased $38,000,000 a t r e p o r t i n g
"banks in the New York d i s t r i c t , $19,000,000 i n the Chicago d i s t r i c t , $9,000,000 in
the Cleveland'".district, $6,000,000 i n the Dallas d i s t r i c t and $77,000,000 a t a l l
reporting hanks. Holdings of other s e c u r i t i e s increased *7,000,000 a t reporting
banks in the Boston d i s t r i c t and declined $2,000,000 a t a l l r e p o r t i n g banks.
Met demand d e p o s i t s , which a t a l l r e p o r t i n g "banks were $117,000,000 "below the
March 13 t o t a l , declined in a l l d i s t r i c t s except New York, which shows an increase
of $36,000,000, the p r i n c i p a l decreases by d i s t r i c t s "being: Boston $36,000,000,
Philadelphia $23,000,000, Kansas City $16,000,000, Cleveland and St. Louis
$15,000,000 each, A t l a n t a $l4,000,000 and Richmond $11,000,000. Time d e p o s i t s declined $23,-000,000 a t r e p o r t i n g banks in the Chicago d i s t r i c t , $13,000,000 in the
San Francisco d i s t r i c t , $9,000,000 in the New York d i s t r i c t and $50,000,000 a t a l l
r e p o r t i n g "banks. All d i s t r i c t s p a r t i c i p a t e d i n the i n c r e a s e of $299,000,000 in
Government d e p o s i t s .
