H.U.2 BOARD OF GOVERNORS OF THE FEDERAL RESERVE SYSTEM (For Immediate Release) March 23, 19u9 CONDITION OF WEEKLY REPORTING MEMBER BANKS IN LEADING CITIES The condition-statement of weekly reporting member banks in leading cities shows the following principal changes for the week ended Larch 16: Increases of $315,000,000 in loans to brokers and dealers for purchasing or carrying United States Government securities, Oul0,000,000 in reserve balances vrith Federal Reserve Banks, $244,000,000 in United States Government deposits, and 5)235,000,000 in borrowings. Commercial, industrial, and agricultural loans decreased ^36,000,000 in new York City and increased by smaller amounts in most of the other districts; there was a net decrease of $11,000,000 at all reporting member banks. Holdings of Treasury bills decreased $115,000,000 in New York City and $31,000,000 in Chicago, and increased $30,000,000 in the San Francisco District; the net decrease at all reporting member banks was $70,000,000. Holdings of Treasury certificates of indebtedness decreased $68,000,000; the principal changes were a decrease of 090,000,000 in New York City, and an increase of #25,000,000 in the Chicago District outside of Chicago. Holdings of United States Government bonds increased $49,000,000. Holdings of "other securities" increased $70,000,000 in New York City, Demand deposits adjusted increased $110,000,000; the principal changes were decreases of $91,000,000 in New York City and $61,000,000 in Chicago, and^increases of $75,000,000 in the San Francisco District, $lt2,000,000 in the Kansas City District, and $34,000,000 in the Dallas District. Demand deposits credited to domestic banks increased $157,000,000.
