For immediate r e l e a s e C01TDITION OF WEEKLY EEPOBTING MEMBER BAMS IN LEADING CITIES The Federal Beserve B o a r d ' s c o n d i t i o n statement of weekly r e p o r t i n g member "banks in l e a d i n g c i t i e s on March 18 shows i n c r e a s e s f o r the week of $425.000,000 in h o l d i n g s of Government s e c u r i t i e s and of $522,000,000 in Government d e p o s i t s , a l s o of $ l 4 l , 0 0 0 , 0 0 0 i n loans and $57,000,000 i n net demand d e p o s i t s . T o t a l loans and i n v e s t m e n t s , l a r g e l y as a r e s u l t of the T r e a s u r y ' s o p e r a t i o n s i n conn e c t i o n with q u a r t e r l y t a x payments, i n c r e a s e d $534,000,000. Loans on s e c u r i t i e s i n c r e a s e d $123,000,000 i n the New York d i s t r i c t and $41,000,000 i n t h e Chicago d i s t r i c t , and declined $36,000,000 i n t h e o t h e r d i s t r i c t s , a l l r e p o r t i n g banks showing a net i n c r e a s e of #128,000,000.
