Tor immediate r e l e a s e CONDITION OF MEMBER BANKS IN LEADING- CITIES P a r t l y as a r e s u l t of Government f i n a n c i a l o p e r a t i o n s a s of March 15, 1927, the F e d e r a l Reserve B o a r d ' s c o n d i t i o n s t a t e m e n t of 674 r e p o r t i n g member banks i n l e a d i n g c i t i e s on March l 6 , 1927, shows i n c r e a s e s of $105,000,000 i n l o a n s and d i s c o u n t s , $290,000,000 i n i n v e s t m e n t s , $305>000,000 i n n e t demand d e p o s i t s , $252,000,000 i n Government d e p o s i t s and a d e d u c t i o n of $76,000,000 i n borrowings from t h e F e d e r a l ' r e s e r v e b a n k s . Member banks .in New York C i t y r e p o r t e d i n c r e a s e s of $47,000,000 i n l o a n s and d i s c o u n t s , $123,000,000 i n i n v e s t m e n t s , $146,000,000 i n net demand d e p o s i t s , $75,000,000 i n Government d e p o s i t s and a d e c l i n e of $61,000,000 i n borrowings from t h e F e d e r a l r e s e r v e bank. Loans on s t o c k s and bonds, i n c l u d i n g U. S. Government o b l i g a t i o n s , were $70,000,000 above the March 9 t o t a l . Of t h i s i n c r e a s e $45,000,000 was i n t h e New York d i s t r i c t and $10,000,000 and $8,000,000 i n the C l e v e l a n d and Boston d i s t r i c t s , respectively, "All o t h e r " l o a n s and d i s c o u n t s i n c r e a s e d $35,000,000, an i n c r e a s e of $20,000,000 i n t h e New York d i s t r i c t and s m a l l e r i n c r e a s e s i n t h e Boston, Kansas C i t y , Chicago and Minneapolis d i s t r i c t s b e i n g o f f s e t i n p a r t by a d e c l i n e of $3,000,000 i n the San F r a n c i s c o d i s t r i c t .
