Condition of Weekly Reporting; Member Banks i n 101 Leading C i t i e s
The c o n d i t i o n statement of weekly r e p o r t i n g member banks i n 101 l e a d i n g
c i t i e s shows the f o l l o w i n g p r i n c i p a l changes f o r the week ended March 6 : I n c r e a s e s
of $31,000,000 i n commercial, i n d u s t r i a l and a g r i c u l t u r a l l o a n s , $25,000,000 i n
holdings of Treasury b i l l s and $34,000,000 i n holdings of United S t a t e s Government
bonds, a decrease of $73,000,000 i n demand d e p o s i t s - a d j u s t e d , and an i n c r e a s e of
$134,000,000 i n d e p o s i t s c r e d i t e d t o domestic banks.
Commercial, i n d u s t r i a l and a g r i c u l t u r a l loans i n c r e a s e d $13,000,000 i n New
York C i t y , $9,000,000 i n t h e Cleveland d i s t r i c t , $8,000,000 i n t h e Boston d i s t r i c t
and $31,000,000 a t a l l r e p o r t i n g member banks. Loans t o brokers and d e a l e r s i n
s e c u r i t i e s i n c r e a s e d $25,000,000 i n New York City and $29,000,000 a t a l l r e p o r t i n g
member banks.
Holdings of United S t a t e s Treasury b i l l s declined $11,000,000 i n New York
City, and i n c r e a s e d $24,000,000 i n t h e S t . Louis d i s t r i c t , $20,000,000 i n the
Chicago d i s t r i c t and $25,000,000 at a l l r e p o r t i n g member banks. Holdings of United
S t a t e s Treasury notes d e c l i n e d $10,000,000. Holdings of United S t a t e s Government
bonds i n c r e a s e d $24,000,000 i n New York City and $34,000,000 at a l l r e p o r t i n g
member banks. Holdings of o b l i g a t i o n s guaranteed by t h e United S t a t e s Government
declined $12,000,000 i n t h e Chicago d i s t r i c t , $7,000,000 i n New York City and
$21,000,000 a t a l l r e p o r t i n g member banks. Holdings o f "Other s e c u r i t i e s " showed
l i t t l e change f o r the week.
Demand d e p o s i t s - a d j u s t e d declined $32,000,000 i n the San Francisco d i s t r i c t ,
$15,000,000 each i n t h e P h i l a d e l p h i a and Chicago d i s t r i c t s , and $73>000,000 at a l l
r e p o r t i n g member banks. Time d e p o s i t s i n c r e a s e d $13,000,000.
Deposits c r e d i t e d t o domestic banks i n c r e a s e d i n n e a r l y a l l d i s t r i c t s , the
p r i n c i p a l i n c r e a s e s being $52,000,000 i n New York C i t y , $18,000,000 i n t n e Clevel a n d d i s t r i c t , $15,000,000 i n t h e Chicago d i s t r i c t , a n d $11,000,000 i n t h e Richmond
d i s t r i c t . The t o t a l i n c r e a s e was $134,000,000.
