CONDITION OF WEEKLY REPORTING MEMBER BANKS IN LEADING.CITIES

The condition statement of weekly reporting member banks i n leading c i t i e s
shows the following principal changes for the week ended June 2* An increase of
$1,000,000,000 i n holdings of Treasury c e r t i f i c a t e s of indebtedness and a decrease
of $1,016,000,000 i n holdings of United States Government bonds, l a r g e l y r e f l e c t i n g the exchange of maturing bonds f o r a new c e r t i f i c a t e i s s u e .
Commercial, i n d u s t r i a l , and agricultural loans decreased i n nearly a l l d i s t r i c t s , the principal decrease being $27,000,000 i n New York City; the t o t a l increase at a l l reporting member banks was $91,000,000,
Substantial increases i n holdings of Treasury c e r t i f i c a t e s of indebtedness
and decreases i n holdings of United States Government bonds occurred i n most d i s t r i c t s , Holdings of Treasury b i l l s increased $52,000,000 i n the Chicago D i s t r i c t
outside the City of Chicago and $1*1,000,000 a t a l l reporting member banks* Holdings
of Treasury notes decreased $26,000,000 i n the Cleveland D i s t r i c t and $1*1*,000,000
at a l l reporting member banks.
Demand deposits adjusted decreased $11*8,000,000 i n New York City and
$52,000,000 i n the Philadelphia D i s t r i c t , and increased $66,000,000.in the San Franc i s c o D i s t r i c t and $1*1,000,000 in the New York D i s t r i c t outside New York City; tie net
decrease at a l l reporting meinber banks was $211,000,000, Time deposits increased
$51,000,000 i n New York City, $9,000,000 in the Dallas D i s t r i c t , and $68,000,000
at a l l reporting member banks. Demand deposits credited to domestic banks increased
in nearly a l l d i s t r i c t s and the t o t a l increase at a l l reporting member banks was

$1*01,000,000.

Borrowings decreased $50,000,000 in New York City, $22,000,000 i n the City of
Chicago and $91,000,000 at a l l reporting member banks,
