Form FR-284 For immediate release STATEMENT FOR THE PRESS Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System June 6, 1938 Condition of Weekly Reporting Member Banks in 101 Leading Cities The condition statement of weekly reporting member banks in 101 leading cities shows the following principal changes for the week ended June It A decrease of $39,000,000 in commercial, industrial and agricultural loans, and an increase of $25,000,000 in loans to brokers and dealers in securities? a decrease of $78,000,000 in holdings of United States Government direct obligations, and an increase of #66,000,000 in holdings of obligations fully guaranteed by the United States Government? a decrease of $108,000,000 in demand deposits—adjusted, and an increase of $136,000,000 in deposits credited to domestic banks. Commercial, industrial and agricultural loans declined $19,000,000 in New York City, $6,000,000 in the Chicago district, and #39,000,000 at all reporting member banks. Loans to brokers and dealers in securities increased $25,000,000 in New York City. "Other loans" increased $8,000,000 in the Chicago district and at all reporting member banks. Holdings of United States Government direct obligations declined $46,000,000 in New York City, $36,000,000 in the St. Louis district and $78,000,000 at all reporting member banks. Holdings of obligations fully guaranteed by the United States Government increased $23,000,000 in New York City and $26,000,000 at all reporting member banks. Holdings of "Other securities" increased $10,000,000 in the St. Louis district and $2,000,000 at all reporting member banks. Demand deposits—adjusted increased $39,000,000 in New York City, and declined $68,000,000 in the St. Louis district, $47,000,000 in the Philadelphia district and $108,000,000 at all reporting member banks. Time deposits increased $4,000,000. Deposits credited to domestic banks increased $49,000,000 in New York City, $24,000,000 in the St. Louis district, $23,000,000 in the Chicago district, $15,000,000 in the Philadelphia district, $13,000,000 in the Cleveland district and $136,000,000 at all reporting member banks. Borrowings of weekly reporting member banks amounted to $1,000,000 on June 1.
