CONDITION OF TUEEKLY REPORTING MEMBER BANKS IN LEADING CITIES

The c o n d i t i o n statement of weekly reporting member banks i n 101 leading c i t i e s
shows the f o l l o w i n g p r i n c i p a l changes f o r the week ended May 291 Decreases of
$372,000,000 i n holdings of United S t a t e s Government o b l i g a t i o n s , $288,000,000 i n
United S t a t e s Government d e p o s i t s , and $122,000,000 i n d e p o s i t s c r e d i t e d t o domestic
banks; and an i n c r e a s e of $21^,000,000 i n demand d e p o s i t s adjusted.
Loans t o brokers and d e a l e r s f o r purchasing or carrying United S t a t e s Government o b l i g a t i o n s increased $76,000,000, and f o r purchasing or carrying other s e c u r i t i e s $79,000,000, both l a r g e l y i n New York C i t y . Commercial, i n d u s t r i a l , and a g r i c u l t u r a l loans increased $15,000,000. "Other loans" d e c l i n e d $69,000,000 i n New
York City and $53,000,000 a t a l l reporting member banks.
Holdings of Treasury b i l l s declined $156,000,000 i n ^ew York C i t y , $ 5 8 , 0 0 0 , 0 0 0
i n the Chicago D i s t r i c t , and $21*8,000,000 a t a l l reporting member banks. Holdings
of Treasury c e r t i f i c a t e s of indebtedness d e c l i n e d $30,000,000 i n the San Francisco
D i s t r i c t , $26,000,000 i n the Philadelphia D i s t r i c t , $20,000,000 i n the Boston D i s t r i c t , and $62,000,000 at a l l reporting member banks, and increased $50,000,000 i n
New York C i t y . Holdings of Treasury notes declined $1*7*000,000 i n New York City
and a t o t a l of $68,000,000,
Demand d e p o s i t s adjusted increased $68,000,000 i n New York C i t y , $63,000,000
i n the Chicago D i s t r i c t , $39,000,000 i n the New York D i s t r i c t outside of New York
