CONDITION OF WEEKU REPORTING MEMBER BANKS IN LEADING CITIES

The c o n d i t i o n statement of weekly r e p o r t i n g member banks i n l e a d i n g c i t i e s
shows t h e f o l l o w i n g p r i n c i p a l changes f o r t h e week ended June 23: Decreases of
$19l* m i l l i o n i n loans to banks, $587 m i l l i o n i n holdings of Treasury b i l l s , $1*1*1*
m i l l i o n i n balances with domestic banks, $2050 m i l l i o n i n demand d e p o s i t s a d j u s t e d ,
and $821 m i l l i o n i n demand d e p o s i t s c r e d i t e d to domestic banks, and i n c r e a s e s of
$1208 i n United S t a t e s Government d e p o s i t s and $335 m i l l i o n i n borrowings.
Commercial, i n d u s t r i a l , and a g r i c u l t u r a l loans decreased $33 m i l l i o n in New
York C i t y , $19 m i l l i o n i n Chicago, $11 m i l l i o n i n t h e San Francisco D i s t r i c t ,
$10 m i l l i o n i n the S t . Louis D i s t r i c t , and a t o t a l of $77 m i l l i o n a t a l l r e p o r t i n g
member banks# Changes according to i n d u s t r y appear i n another p r e s s r e l e a s e .
Holdings of Treasury b i l l s decreased $215 m i l l i o n i n New York C i t y , $181 mill i o n i n the Chicago D i s t r i c t , $52 m i l l i o n i n the Cleveland D i s t r i c t , $50 m i l l i o n
i n t h e San F r a n c i s c o D i s t r i c t , $31 m i l l i o n i n t h e Boston D i s t r i c t , and by smaller
amounts i n t h e o t h e r d i s t r i c t s . Holdings of Treasury c e r t i f i c a t e s of indebtedness
and of Treasury notes decreased $57 m i l l i o n and $1*6 m i l l i o n , r e s p e c t i v e l y . Holdings of United S t a t e s Government bonds i n c r e a s e d $11 m i l l i o n .
Demand d e p o s i t s a d j u s t e d decreased i n a l l d i s t r i c t s ; t h e p r i n c i p a l decreases
were $895 m i l l i o n i n t h e New York D i s t r i c t , $361 m i l l i o n i n t h e Chicago D i s t r i c t ,
$189 m i l l i o n i n t h e Cleveland D i s t r i c t , $153 m i l l i o n i n the San Francisco D i s t r i c t ,
$99 m i l l i o n i n t h e Kansas C i t y D i s t r i c t , and $ 8 3 m i l l i o n i n the S t . Louis D i s t r i c t .
Time d e p o s i t s i n c r e a s e d $ 3 8 m i l l i o n .
Borrowings i n c r e a s e d $290 m i l l i o n i n New York C i t y and $75 m i l l i o n i n t h e
Chicago D i s t r i c t , b u t t h e y decreased $25 m i l l i o n i n t h e San Francisco D i s t r i c t .
