H.4.2 BOARD OF GOVERNORS OP THE FEDERAL RESERVE SYSTEM (For Immediate Release) CONDITION OF WEEKLY REPORTING MEMBER BANKS IN LEADING CITIES June 29, i960 The condition statement of weekly reporting member banks in leading c i t i e s shows the f o l l o w i n g p r i n c i p a l changes for the week ended June 22: Decreases of $236 m i l l i o n in loans adjusted, $178 m i l l i o n i n holdings of U. S. Government s e c u r i t i e s , $358 m i l l i o n in balances with domestic banks, $229 m i l l i o n in U. S. Government demand deposits, and $880 m i l l i o n i n demand d e p o s i t s credited t o domestic banks. Commercial and i n d u s t r i a l loans increased i n nine d i s t r i c t s and a t o t a l of $93 m i l l i o n . Loans t o brokers and dealers f o r purchasing or carrying U. S. Government and other s e c u r i t i e s decreased $310 m i l l i o n . Holdings of Treasury b i l l s decreased $208 m i l l i o n . Demand d e p o s i t s adjusted decreased $177 m i l l i o n . Time d e p o s i t s other than interbank increased $126 m i l l i o n , of which $112 m i l l i o n was in d e p o s i t s of i n d i v i d u a l s , partnerships, end corporations. Borrowings of weekly reporting member banks from Federal Reserve Banks increased $316 m i l l i o n but borrowings from others decreased $82 m i l l i o n . Loans t o domestic commercial banks decreased $87 m i l l i o n .
