CONDITION OF MEMBER BANKS IN LEADING CITIES The p r i n c i p a l changes i n t h e c o n d i t i o n of 733 r e p o r t i n g member banks i n l e a d i n g c i t i e s d u r i n g t h e week e n d i n g June 17, a s shown i n t h e s t a t e m e n t i s s u e d b y - t h e F e d e r a l Reserve Board, comprise i n c r e a s e s of $11,000,000 i n l o a n s and d i s c o u n t s , $13-000,000 i n i n v e s t m e n t s , $48,000,000 i n r e s e r v e b a l a n c e s , $4?,000,000 and $£tb ; 000,000, r e s p e c i v e l y , i n n e t demand and time d e p o s i t s , and $22,000,000 i n accommodation a t t h e F e d e r a l r e s e r v e banks. The New York 05 t y b a r k s r e p o r t e d a r e d u c t i o n of $7,000,000 i n t o t a l l o a n s and d i s c o u n t s , of $10,000,000 i n i n v e s t ments and o f $11,000,000 i n accommodation a t t h e F s d e r a l r e s e r v e b a n k , t o g e t h e r w i t h i n c r e a s e s of $23,000,000 each i n r e s e r v e b a l a n c e s and n e t demand d e p o s i t s . Loans on s t o c k s and bonds Went up $64,000,000, of which $56,000,000 was r e p o r t e d by banks i n t h e New Yoik d i s t r i c t . "All o t h e r " l o a n s and d i s c o u n t s , l a r g e l y commercial, were reduced $47,000,000, t h e b a n k s i n the New York d i s t r i c t r e p o r t i n g a d e c l i n e of $49,000,000 i n t h i s item and t h o s e i n t h e o t h e r d i s t r i c t s showing r e l a t i v e l y small changes f o r t h e week. I n v e s t m e n t s i n U, S. Government s e c u r i t i e s i n c r e a s e d $ 4 , 0 0 0 , 0 0 0 . Banks i n the New York d i s t r i c t r e p o r t e d a d e c l i n e of $19,000,000 i n t h i s i t e m , w h i l e banks i n t h e Cleveland d i s t r i c t r e p o r t e d an i n c r e a s e of $13,000,000, and t h o s e i n t h e Boston and A t l a n t a d i s t r i c t s i n c r e a s e s of $5,000,000 and $ 4 , 0 0 0 , 0 0 0 , r e s p e c t i v e l y . The only important change i n h o l d i n g s of o t h e r b o n d s , s t o c k s and s e c u r i t i e s was an i n c r e a s e of $12,000,000 r e p o r t e d by banks i n t h e New York d i s t r i c t . Reserve b a l a n c e s went up $26,000,000 i n the Chicago d i s t r i c t , $20,000,000 i n t h e New York d i s t r i c t and $10,000,000 i n t h e Boston d i s t r i c t . The p r i n c i p a l changes i n n e t demand d e p o s i t s d u r i n g t h e week comprise i n c r e a s e s of $37,000,000 i n the New York d i s t r i c t , $20,000,000 i n the Boston d i s t r i c t and $10,000,000 i n the Kansas C i t y d i s t r i c t , and d e c l i n e s of $15,000,000 and $7,000,000 i n t h e Richmond and A t l a n t a d i s t r i c t s , r e s p e c t i v e l y .
