CONDITION OF WEEKLY REPORTING MEMBER BANKS IN LEADING CITIES
The condition statement of weekly reporting member banks i n leading c i t i e s
shows the following principal changes f o r the week ended June 161 A decrease of
$1*17,000,000 in holdings of United States Government s e c u r i t i e s of which
$21*4,000,000 was i n Treasury b i l l s , and increases of $774,000,000 i n reserve
balances with Federal Reserve Banks, $263,000,000 i n demand deposits adjusted,
and $408,000,000 in demand deposits credited t o domestic banks.
Commercial, i n d u s t r i a l , and a g r i c u l t u r a l loans increased $ 6 9 , 0 0 0 , 0 0 0 in New
York City and $ 9 3 , 0 0 0 , 0 0 0 a t a l l reporting member banks. Loans f o r purchasing or
carrying United States Government and other s e c u r i t i e s decreased $ 1 0 4 , 0 0 0 , 0 0 0 ,
largely i n New York City.
Holdings of Treasury b i l l s decreased $ 2 6 3 , 0 0 0 , 0 0 0 in New York City and
$ 4 0 , 0 0 0 , 0 0 0 in the Chicago D i s t r i c t , and increased $ 3 5 * 0 0 0 , 0 0 0 in the Kansas City
D i s t r i c t . Holdings of Treasury c e r t i f i c a t e s of indebtedness decreased $ 5 2 , 0 0 0 , 0 0 0
in New York City, $ 5 2 , 0 0 0 , 0 0 0 i n the Chicago D i s t r i c t and $ 7 4 , 0 0 0 , 0 0 0 a t a l l report
ing member banks. Holdings of Treasury notes increased $ 1 3 , 0 0 0 , 0 0 0 . Holdings of
United States Government bonds decreased in a l l d i s t r i c t s , and the t o t a l decrease
at a l l reporting member banks was $112,000,000.
Demand deposits adjusted increased in most of the d i s t r i c t s , the principal
increases being $ 6 2 , 0 0 0 , 0 0 0 i n New York D i s t r i c t , $ 6 1 , 0 0 0 , 0 0 0 i n the Kansas City
D i s t r i c t , $ 5 5 , 0 0 0 , 0 0 0 in the Chicago D i s t r i c t , and $1*8,000,000 i n the Dallas Dist r i c t . United States Government deposits decreased $ 2 ^ 6 , 0 0 0 , 0 0 0 . Demand deposits
credited t o domestic banks increased in nearly a l l d i s t r i c t s .
Borrowings increased $1*2,000,000 i n the City of Chicago and $ 1 5 , 0 0 0 , 0 0 0 at
a l l reporting member banks, and decreased $21*,000,000 in the Cleveland D i s t r i c t .
