CONDITION OF TEEKLY REPORTING MrMB,R BANKS IN LEADING CITIES
The condition statement of weekly reporting member banks i n leading c i t i e s
shows the f o l l o w i n g p r i n c i p a l changes f o r the week ended June 13: Increases of
# 2 3 m i l l i o n i n loans adjusted, $390 m i l l i o n i n reserve balances with Federal
Reserve Banks, and $1,333 m i l l i o n in demand d e p o s i t s adjusted, and a decrease of
$42$ m i l l i o n in United S t a t e s Government d e p o s i t s .
Commercial and i n d u s t r i a l loans increased $145 m i l l i o n i n New York City, $34
m i l l i o n i n the San Francisco D i s t r i c t , $30 m i l l i o n i n Chicago, #22 m i l l i o n i n the
Philadelphia D i s t r i c t , and by smaller amounts i n most o f the other d i s t r i c t s , r e s u l t i n g i n a n e t i n c r e a s e of $277 m i l l i o n a t a l l reporting member banks. Changes
according to industry appear i n another press r e l e a s e . Real e s t a t e loans increased
$39 m i l l i o n . "Other" loans increased $69 m i l l i o n , of which $32 m i l l i o n was in
Chicago.
Holdings of Treasury b i l l s increased $22 m i l l i o n and holdings of Treasury cert i f i c a t e s of indebtedness increased $26 m i l l i o n . Holdings of "other" s e c u r i t i e s
increased $29 m i l l i o n i n the San Francisco D i s t r i c t and a t o t a l of $61 m i l l i o n at
a l l reporting member banks.
Demand deposits adjusted increased in a l l d i s t r i c t s ; t h e p r i n c i p a l increases
were $492 m i l l i o n i n New York City, $146 m i l l i o n in the San Francisco D i s t r i c t ,
$122 m i l l i o n i n the Cleveland D i s t r i c t , $93 m i l l i o n in Chicago and $89 m i l l i o n i n
the Philadelphia D i s t r i c t . Time deposits increased $45 m i l l i o n . Demand deposits
credited t o domestic banks increased $122 m i l l i o n .
Borrowings from Federal Reserve Banks increased #164 m i l l i o n and borrowings
from others decreased $120 m i l l i o n . Loans t o banks decreased $93 m i l l i o n .
