CONDITION OF MEMBER BANKS IN LEADING CITIES Aggregate increases of $134,000,000 i n loans and investments and of $216,000,000 in net demand deposits, together with a further reduction of $20,000,000 in accommodation at the Federal reserve banks, are shown in the Federal Reserve Board's weekly consolidated statement of condition on June 11 of 7^9 member banks in leading c i t i e s . Loans on U« S, Government s e c u r i t i e s declined by $4,000,000, while loans on ccr* porate s e c u r i t i e s and " a l l other," largely commercial, loans and discounts irtere&sed by $69,000,000 and $70,000,000, respectively. Investments in U. S. s e c u r i t i e s show an increase of $12,000,000, and other bonds, stocks and s e c u r i t i e s - a decrease of $13,000,000. Member banks in New York City report increases of $2,000,000 in loans on U. S. Government s e c u r i t i e s , of $89,000,000 in loans cn corporate s e c u r i t i e s , and of $45,000,000 in "all other" loans and discounts. Investments of these banks in U. S. s e c u r i t i e s decreased by $7,000,000 and investments in corporate s e c u r i t i e s - by $19,000,000. Of the t o t a l increase of $216,000,000 i n net demand deposits, $139|000,000 was reported by banks in the New York d i s t r i c t , $34,000,000 - in the Chicago d i s t r i c t , $17,000,000 - in the San Francisco d i s t r i c t and $16,000,000 - in the Philadelphia d i s t r i c t . Time deposits of a l l reporting members show an increase of $22,000,000 and Government deposits - a decrease of $9,000,000, An increase of $1,000,000 in time deposits and a decrease of $2,000,000 in Government deposits are reported by the New York City banks, Reserve balances of a l l reporting banks show an increase of $50,000,000, while reserve balances of the New York City members show an increase of $55*000,000. Cash in vault shows p r a c t i c a l l y no change. , Borrowings of a l l reporting i n s t i t u t i o n s fro.n the Federal Reserve banks declined from $160,000,000 to $140,000,000, and l i k e borrowings of the New York City banks increased from $4,000,000 to $5,000,000.
