CONDITION OF WEEKLY REPORTING MEMBER BANKS IN LEADING CITIES

The c o n d i t i o n s t a t e m e n t of weekly r e p o r t i n g member banks i n 101 l e a d i n g c i t i e s
shows t h e f o l l o w i n g p r i n c i p a l changes f o r the week ended June in Decreases of
$636,000,000 i n h o l d i n g s of United S t a t e s Government o b l i g a t i o n s and $720,000,000
i n United S t a t e s Government d e p o s i t s , and an i n c r e a s e of $2)7,000,000 i n demand
deposits adjusted.
Commercial, i n d u s t r i a l , and a g r i c u l t u r a l loans decreased i n n e a r l y a l l d i s t r i c t s and t h e t o t a l decrease a t a l l r e p o r t i n g member banks was $1+1+,000,000. Loans
t o b r o k e r s and d e a l e r s f o r purchasing or c a r r y i n g United S t a t e s Government secur i t i e s i n c r e a s e d $50,000,000* Loans t o brokers and d e a l e r s f o r purchasing or c a r r y ing other s e c u r i t i e s increased i n nearly a l l d i s t r i c t s , the p r i n c i p a l increases
being $83,000,000 i n t h e Chicago D i s t r i c t and $71,000,000 i n New York C i t y ; the i n c r e a s e a t a l l r e p o r t i n g member banks was $175,000,000.
Holdings of Treasury c e r t i f i c a t e s of indebtedness decreased $178,000,000 i n
New York C i t y , $87,000,000 i n t h e Chicago D i s t r i c t , and $328,000,000 a t a l l r e p o r t i n g member banks, r e f l e c t i n g t h e p a r t i a l redemption of a maturing s e r i e s . Holdings
of Treasury b i l l s decreased $11+6,000,000 i n t h e Chicago D i s t r i c t , $55,000,000 i n
t h e San F r a n c i s c o D i s t r i c t , $50,000,000 i n New York C i t y , and $532,000,000 a t a l l
r e p o r t i n g member b a n k s .
