CONDITION OF WEEKLY REPORTING MEMBER BANKS IN LEADING CITIES
The condition statement of weekly reporting member banks in leading c i t i e s
shows the following p r i n c i p a l changes f o r the week ended May 25* A decrease of
$176,000,000 in loans, increases of $278,000,000 in holdings ^of United States
Government s e c u r i t i e s and $$66,000,000 i n demand deposits adjusted, and a decrease
of $U8U,000,000 in borrowings.
Commercial, i n d u s t r i a l , and a g r i c u l t u r a l loans decreased i n nearly a l l d i s t r i c t s and a t o t a l of $118,000,000 a t a l l reporting member banks; the p r i n c i p a l decreases were $#,000,000 in New York City and $17,000,000 in the San Francisco
D i s t r i c t . Loans to brokers and dealers for purchasing or carrying United States
Government and other s e c u r i t i e s decreased $166,000,000, largely in New York Ci y .
Loans to banks increased $9^,000,000.
Holdings of Treasury b i l l s increased $120,000,000. Holdings of Treasury^
c e r t i f i c a t e s of indebtedness increased $10$,000,000 in New York City and a t o t a l of
$98,000,000 a t a l l reporting member banks. Holdings of United States Government
bonds increased $$1,000,000, and holdings of "other s e c u r i t i e s " increased
Demand deposits adjusted increased in nearly a l l d i s t r i c t s ; the p r i n c i p a l i n creases were $2$6,000,000 in New York City, $116,000,000 i n the C ^ a g o D i s t r i c t ,
$68,000,000 in the New York D i s t r i c t outside of New York City, and $35,000,000 in
the St. Louis D i s t r i c t . Demand deposits credited t o domestic banks decreased

Chicago D i s t r i c t .
