H.l*.2 BOARD OF GOVERNORS OF THE FEDERAL RESERVE SYSTEM (For Immediate Release) July 7, 195k CONDITION OF WEEKLY REPORTING MEMBER BANKS IN LEADING CITIES The condition statement of weekly reporting member banks in leading cities shows the following principal changes for the week ended June 30: Increases of S320 million in loans to brokers and dealers for purchasing or carrying securities, $21*0 million in holdings of Treasury bills, and #96 million in balances with domestic banks; decreases of $302 million in loans to banks, $587 million in reserve balances with Federal Reserve Banks, $796 million in demand deposits adjusted, and $832 million in borrowings; and increases of $871 million in United States Government deposits and $91*5 million in demand deposits credited to domestic banks. Commercial, industrial, and agricultural loans decreased $ll* million at all reporting member banks; the principal changes were decreases of $26 million in New York City and $ll* million in Chicago, and an increase of $19 million in the Dallas District. Changes according to industry appear in another press release. Real estate loans increased $28 million. "Other" loans increased $32 million. Holdings of Treasury bills increased $85 million in the Chicago District, $8l million in New York City, $1*5 million in the Cleveland District, and by smaller amounts in most of the other districts. Holdings of Treasury certificates of indebtedness increased $17 million. Holdings of United States Government bonds increased $36 million. Demand deposits adjusted decreased $386 million in New York City, $85 million in the Dallas District, $77 million in the Philadelphia District, and $7It million in the San Francisco District. Time deposits increased $91 million. Borrowings decreased $5ll* million in New York City and $11*3 million in the Chicago District.
