R. 2QU For immediate r e l e a s e Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System July It, 19!+!+ Condition of Weekly Reporting Member Banks in Leading C i t i e s The condition statement of weekly reporting member banks i n 101 leading c i t i e s shows the f o l l o w i n g p r i n c i p a l changes f o r the week ended June 28t Increases of $2,085*000,000 i n holdings of United S t a t e s Government s e c u r i t i e s , $1,'71+8*000,000 in loans, of which $1,571*000,000 was for the purpose of purchasing or carrying United S t a t e s Government o b l i g a t i o n s , and $7»10U,000,000 i n United S t a t e s Government d e p o s i t s ; and a decrease of $3,1+18,000,000 i n demand d e p o s i t s adjusted. Loses t o brokers and dealers for the purpose of purchasing or carrying United States Government o b l i g a t i o n s increased $335#000,000 in New York C i t y , $118,000,000 i n the Cleveland D i s t r i c t , and $561,000,000 at a l l reporting member banks. Other loans f o r the same purpose increased in a l l d i s t r i c t s , the principal increases being $1+01,000,000 in New York City, $125,000,000 in the Atlanta D i s t r i c t , $110,000,000 i n the Cleveland D i s t r i c t , and $102,000,000 in the Chicago D i s t r i c t ; the t o t a l increase a t a l l reporting member banks was $1,010,000,000.
