St.4131 Federal Reserve Board July 3, 1984, CONDITION OF MEMBER BANKS IN LEADING CITIES Further increases of $95,000,000 i n loans and investments and of $35,000,000 in time d e p o s i t s , together with reductions of $46,000,000 i n net demand deposits and of $52,000,000 i n reserve balances with the Federal reserve banks, are shown i n the Federal Reserve Board's weekly consolidated statement of condition on June 25, of ?48 member banks i n leading c i t i e s . Loans on U. S. Government s e c u r i t i e s show an increase of $3,000,000 and loans on corporate s e c u r i t i e s - an increase of $29,000,000, while "All o t h e r , " l a r g e l y commercial, loans and discounts, show a decrease of $2,000,000, Holdings of Liberty bonds were increased by $18,000,000 during the week and of corporate s e c u r i t i e s by $50,000,000. Member banks i n New York City report an increase of $65,000,000 i n loans and discounts, loans on U. S. Governnent s e c u r i t i e s having increased by $4,000,000, loans on corporate s e c u r i t i e s - by $28,000,000, and a l l other loans and discounts - by $33,000,000. Investments of these banks i n U. S. Government s e c u r i t i e s show an i n crease of $11,000,000, and t h e i r investments i n corporate stocks and bonds - an i n crease of $21,000,000. Of t h e aggregate decrease of $46,000,000 i n net demand deposits, $27,000,000 was reported by banks i n the New York d i s t r i c t . Small decreased are reported i n a l l other d i s t r i c t s except Boston, Cleveland and Kansas City. Time deposits of a l l reporting members were $35,000,000 larger than a week ago, increases being reported f o r a l l d i s t r i c t s except Richmond. Government deposits show p r a c t i c a l l y no change tor the week. Reserve balances of a l l reporting banks declined by $52,000,000, while cash i n vault increased by $4,000,000. For the New York City banks a decline of $53,000,000 i n reserve balances and an increase of $1,000,000 i n cash are shown, Borrowings of a l l reporting i n s t i t u t i o n s from the Federal reserve banks declined from $116,000,000 to $106,000,000, while l i k e borrowings of the New York City members show p r a c t i c a l l y no change.
