CONDITION OF WEEKLY REPORTING MEMBER BANKS IN LEADING CITIES

I

The condition statement of weekly reporting member banks in leading c i t i e s
shows the following principal changes f o r the week ended July 24$ Decreases of
$356 million i n loans adjusted, $419 million i n holdings of U, S, Government
s e c u r i t i e s , $712 million in U. S, Government deposits, and $528 million in demand
deposits credited t o domestic banks, and an increase of $403 million in demand
deposits adjusted.

Commercial and i n d u s t r i a l loans decreased in most d i s t r i c t s and a t o t a l of
$286 million at a l l reporting member banks; the principal decreases were $181
million in New York City, $39 million in the San Francisco D i s t r i c t , $37 million
in Chicago, and $15 million in the Cleveland D i s t r i c t . Changes according t o
industry appear in another press release. Loans t o brokers and dealers f o r purchasing or carrying U. S. Government and other s e c u r i t i e s decreased $69 million.

Holdings of Treasury b i l l s decreased in most d i s t r i c t s and a t o t a l of $239
million a t a l l reporting member banks. Holdings of Treasury c e r t i f i c a t e s of
indebtedness and of Treasury notes decreased $87 million and $116 million, re"
spectively. Holdings of U. S. Government bonds increased $23 million. Holdings
of "other" s e c u r i t i e s decreased $71 million.

Demand deposits adjusted increased $127 million in Chicago, $102 million in
New York City, and $56 million each in the Cleveland and Dallas D i s t r i c t s .
Borrowings from Federal Reserve Banks decreased $294 million, and borrowings
from others increased $162 million. Loans t o banks increased $191 million.
