H.4.2 BOARD OF GOVERNORS OF THE FEDERAL RESERVE SYSTEM (For Immediate Release) July 30; 1952. CONDITION OF WEEKLY REPORTING MEMBER BANKS IN LEADING CITIES The condition statement of weekly reporting member banks in leading cities shows the following principal changes for the week ended July 23: Decreases of $430 million in United States Government deposits and $512 million in demand deposits credited to domestic banks, and an increase of $446 million in demand deposits adjusted. Changes in commercial, industrial, and agricultural loans were relatively small in all districts and there was a net decrease of $11 million at all reporting member banks. Changes according to industry are available in another press release. Loans to brokers and dealers for purchasing or carrying United States Government securities decreased $82 million. Real estate loans increased $14 million. Loans to banks decreased $247 million. "Other loans" increased $28 million. Holdings of Treasury bills decreased $47 million in New York City, $30 million in the New York District outside of New York City, $26 million in the Minneapolis District, and $25 million in the San Francisco District, but they increased $45 million in Chicago; the net decrease at all reporting member banks was $122 million. Holdings of Treasury certificates of indebtedness decreased $ 5 6 million. Holdings of United States Government bonds increased $ 3 3 million; the principal changes were an increase of $35 million in New York City and a decrease of $ 3 0 million in the San Francisco District. Demand deposits adjusted increased $275 million in New York City, $ 7 6 million in the Cleveland District, $43 million in the Boston District, and $37 million in the San Francisco District. Borrowings decreased $197 million in New York City and $105 million in the San Francisco District, and increased $47 million in Chicago and $ 3 6 million in the Richmond District; the net decrease was $220 million.
