For immediate r e l e a s e CONDITION OF MEMBER BANKS IN LEADING CITIES The F e d e r a l Reserve B o a r d ' s c o n d i t i o n statement of 636 r e p o r t i n g member banks in l e a d i n g c i t i e s as of J u l y 25 shows d e c r e a s e s f o r the week of $58,000,000 in loans and d i s c o u n t s , of $40,000,000 i n investments, and of $16?,000,000 i n dep o s i t s , and an i n c r e a s e of $11,000,000 i n borrowings from t h e F e d e r a l r e s e r v e banks Loans on stocks and bonds, i n c l u d i n g United S t a t e s Government o b l i g a t i o n s , were $36,000,000 below the J u l y 18 t o t a l a t a l l reporting banks, $19,000,000 below a t member banks i n t£6 New York d i s t r i c t , $6,000,000 in the P h i l a d e l p h i a d i s t r i c t , and $6,000,000 in the Kansas City d i s t r i c t . "All o t h e r " loans and d i s c o u n t s i n c r e a s e d $8,000,000 a t r e p o r t i n g banks i n the New vork d i s t r i c t and d e c l i n e d in most of the o t h e r d i s t r i c t s , a l l r e p o r t i n g banks showing a n e t decrease of $22,000,000 and member banks i n the San F r a n c i s c o and Boston d i s t r i c t s d e c r e a s e s of $7,000,000 and $5,000,000, r e s p e c t i v e l y . Holdings of United S t a t e s Government s e c u r i t i e s were $14,000,000 l e s s than a week ago a t r e p o r t i n g banks i n the New York d i s t r i c t , $7,000,000 i n the Chicago d i s t r i c t and $28,000,000 a t a l l r e p o r t i n g banks, while h o l d i n g s of o t h e r bonds, s t o c k s , and s e c u r i t i e s d e c l i n e d $7,000,000 in the New v o r k d i s t r i c t and $12,000,000 a t a l l r e p o r t i n g banks. Net demand d e p o s i t s d e c l i n e d i n a l l but one d i s t r i c t , the p r i n c i p a l decreases by d i s t r i c t s b e i n g : Now York $47,000,000, Boston $25,000,000, Chicago and San Francisco $18,000,000 each, P h i l a d e l p h i a $11,000,000, and Richmond and Minneapolis $6,000,000 each.
