CONDITION OF WEEKLY REPORTING MEMBER BANKS IN LEADING CITIES

The condition statement of weekly reporting member banks in leading cities
shows the following principal changes for the week ended June 26: Decreases of
$556 million in holdings of Treasury bills, #547 million in demand deposits adjusted, and $424 million in demand deposits credited to domestic banks, and an
increase of $326 million in U. S. Government deposits.
Commercial and industrial loans increased $65 million at all reporting
member banks; the principal changes were increases of $45 million in the New York
District and $28 million in the San Francisco District. Changes according to
industry appear in another press release. Loans to brokers and dealers for purchasing or carrying U. S, Government and other securities decreased $114 million.
"Other" loans increased $72 million, of which $56 million was in New York City,
Holdings of Treasury bills decreased in all districts, partly reflecting the
maturing of a special issue of tax anticipation bills. Holdings of Treasury
certificates of indebtedness and of Treasury notes decreased $98 million and $82
million, respectively.
Demand deposits adjusted decreased $222 million in New York City, $94 million
in the Cleveland District, and $78 million in Chicago, but they increased $53 million in the Boston District. Time deposits increased $116 million, of which $83
million was in deposits of individuals, partnerships, and corporations in the San
Francisco District.
Borrowings from Federal Reserve Banks decreased $295 million, and borrowings
from others increased $145 million. Loans to banks increased $169 million.
