STATEMENT FOR THE PRESS For immediate release Federal Reserve Board July 29, 1929. CONDITION OF WEEKLY REPORTING MEMBER BJOTKS IN LEADING CITIES The Federal Reserve Board's condition statement of weekly reporting member banks in leading c i t i e s on July 24 shows increases f o r the week of $50,000,000 in loans "and investments and of $23,000,000 in time deposits, aid decreases of $731000,000 in net demand deposits, of $61,000,000 in Government deposits, and of $19,000,000 in "borrowings from Federal reserve banks. Loans on s e c u r i t i e s increased $39,000,000 at a l l reporting tanks, $45,000,000 in the New York d i s t r i c t and $9,000,000 in the Cleveland d i s t r i c t , and declined $7,000,000 in the Boston d i s t r i c t . "All other" loans increased $39,000,000 at a l l reporting "banks, and $41,000,000 in the New York d i s t r i c t , and declined $6,000,000 in the Cleveland d i s t r i c t . Holdings of U. S. Government securities declined $19,000,000 a t a l l reporting tanks and holdings of other securities $9,000,000. Net demand deposits, itiiich a t a l l reporting "banks were $73,000,000 "below the preceding week's t o t a l , declined $20,000,000 in the Chicago d i s t r i c t , $16,000,000 each in the Boston and Dallas diifcticts^jand $11,000,000 each i n the Philadelphia and San Francisco d i s t r i c t s . Time deposits increased $13,000,000 in the New York d i s t r i c t and $23,000,000 a t a l l reporting banks. The principal changes in "borrowings from Federal reserve "banks f o r the week were declines of $24,000,000 at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, $15,000,000 at Chicago and $11,000,000 at Cleveland, and increases of $l4,000,000 at Francisco, $7,000,000 at Boston and $6,000,000 at Philadelphia.
