BOARD OF GOVERNORS OF THE FEDERAL RESERVE SYSTEM (For Immediate Release) H.l*,2 J u l y 27, 19^9 CONDITION OF WEEKLY REPORTING MEMBER BANKS IN LEADING CITIES The condition statement of weekly r e p o r t i n g member banks i n l e a d i n g c i t i e s shows t h e following p r i n c i p a l changes f o r t h e week ended July 20$ I n c r e a s e s of $253,000,000 i n holdings of United S t a t e s Government s e c u r i t i e s * $1*37,000,000 i n demand d e p o s i t s a d j u s t e d , and $271*,000,000 i n borrowings, and a decrease of $515,000,000 i n demand d e p o s i t s c r e d i t e d t o domestic banks• Commercial, i n d u s t r i a l , and a g r i c u l t u r a l loans decreased $118,000,000 i n s i x d i s t r i c t s and i n c r e a s e d $21,000,000 i n t h e o t h e r s i x d i s t r i c t s ; t h e p r i n c i p a l dec r e a s e was $101,000,000 i n New York City. Holdings of Treasury b i l l s i n c r e a s e d i n most of t h e d i s t r i c t s and a t o t a l of $11*3,000,000 a t a l l r e p o r t i n g member banks. Holdings of Treasury c e r t i f i c a t e s of indebtedness i n c r e a s e d $61,000,000 i n New York City and decreased $31*, 000,000 i n t h e Minneapolis D i s t r i c t ; t h e net i n c r e a s e a t a l l r e p o r t i n g member banks was $32,000,000. Holdings of United S t a t e s Government bonds i n c r e a s e d $61,000,000. Holdings of "other s e c u r i t i e s " i n c r e a s e d $73,000,000.
