CONDITION OF MEMBER BAMS IN LEADING CITIES
Increases of $67,000,000 i n loans and. investments, of $140,000,000 i n net demand d e p o s i t s and o f $44,000,000 i n time d e p o s i t s are shown i n t h e Federal Reserve
Board's weekly statement of condition on July l 6 of ?4g member banks i n leading
cities,
Loans secured by corporate s t o c k s and bonds increased, by $76,000,000 While
loans secured by U. S. Government o b l i g a t i o n s declined, by $19,000,000 and "All other,"
l a r g e l y commercial, loans and discounts by $35,000,000. Investments i n United
S t a t e s bonds show an i n c r e a s e of $13,000,00p, i n Treasury n o t e s - of $15,000,000 and
i n corporate s e c u r i t i e s - of $21,000,000, Holdings of c e r t i f i c a t e s of indebtedness
decreased by $4,000,000.
Member banks i n New York City report an i n c r e a s e of $67,000,000 i n loans on
corporate s e c u r i t i e s as against decreases of $13,000,000 i n l o a n s on U. S. Government o b l i g a t i o n s and of $33,000,000 i n "All other" loans and d i s c o u n t s . Their holdGovernment s e c u r i t i e s increased by $7,000,000 and t h e i r holdings of
corporate s e c u r i t i e s - by $4,000,000.
