H.li.2 BOARD OF GOVERNORS OF THE FEDERAL RESERVE SYSTEM (For Immediate Release) July 20, 1955 CONDITION OF WEEKLY REPORTING MEMBER BANKS IN LEADING CITIES The condition statement of weekly reporting member banks in leading cities shows the following principal changes for the week ended July 13: An increase of $777 million in demand deposits adjusted and a decrease of $1*58 million in United States Government deposits* Commercial, industrial, and agricultural loans increased in all districts and a total of $139 million at all reporting member banks; the principal increases were $25 million in the St. Louis District, $18 million in the New York District, $16 million each in Chicago and in the Kansas City District, and $11* million in the Dallas District, Changes according to industry appear in another press release. Real estate loans increased $30 million and "other" loans increased $33 million. Holdings of United States Government securities decreased $13l* million, with all categories showing decreases. Holdings of "other" securities decreased $62 million in New York City and a total of $117 million at all reporting member banks. Demand deposits adjusted increased $200 million in New York City, $97 million in the Cleveland District, $79 million each in the Richmond and Chicago Districts, $78 million in the Dallas District, and $77 million in the Atlanta District. Time deposits decreased $1*1* million. Borrowings from Federal Reserve Banks decreased $58 million in Chicago and a total of $ll*9 million at all reporting member banks. Borrowings from others increased $72 million, of which $58 million was in Chicago. Loans to banks increased $55 million.
