CONDITION OF I EEKLY REPORTING MEMBER BANKS B LEADING CITIES
The c o n d i t i o n statement of weekly reporting member banks i n leading c i t i e s
shows the f o l l o w i n g p r i n c i p a l changes f o r the week ended July l i s Decreases of
$175 m i l l i o n in loans adjusted, $210 m i l l i o n in holdings of United S t a t e s Government
s e c u r i t i e s , S362 m i l l i o n i n r e s e r v e balances with Federal Reserve Banks, and $1,129
m i l l i o n i n United S t a t e s Government d e p o s i t s , and an i n c r e a s e of £217 m i l l i o n in
demand d e p o s i t s c r e d i t e d to domestic banks.
Commercial and i n d u s t r i a l loans decreased $106 m i l l i o n a t a l l reporting member
banks; the p r i n c i p a l changes were decreases o f $15& m i l l i o n i n New York City and
$25 m i l l i o n i n Chicago, and i n c r e a s e s of $3h m i l l i o n i n t h e San Francisco D i s t r i c t ,
$20 m i l l i o n i n t i e S t . Louis D i s t r i c t , and $16 m i l l i o n in the Dallas D i s t r i c t .
Changes according to i n d u s t r y appear i n another press r e l e a s e . Loans to brokers
and dealers f o r purchasing or carrying United S t a t e s Government and other s e c u r i t i e s
decreased #63 m i l l i o n .
Holdings o f Treasury b i l l s decreased $85 m i l l i o n i n the New York D i s t r i c t o u t s i d e of New York City and a t o t a l o f $105 m i l l i o n at a l l r e p o r t i n g member banks.
Holdings of United S t a t e s Government bonds decreased $82 m i l l i o n , of which $1*0
m i l l i o n was i n New York C i t y .
Demand d e p o s i t s adjusted increased $223 m i l l i o n i n the San Francisco D i s t r i c t
and $75 m i l l i o n i n the Atlanta D i s t r i c t , but t h e y decreased $321 m i l l i o n in the New
York D i s t r i c t : there was a net i n c r e a s e of $96 m i l l i o n a t a l l reporting member
banks. Time d e p o s i t s decreased $55 m i l l i o n i n New York City and a t o t a l of (72
m i l l i o n a t a l l reporting member banks.
Borrowings from Federal Reserve Banks increased $55 m i l l i o n and borrowings
from others decreased $72 m i l l i o n . Loans t o banks decreased #133 m i l l i o n .
