For immediate r e l e a s e CONDITIO# OF M3MBSE BAHES IK LEADING CITIES The F e d e r a l Beserve B o a r d ' s c o n d i t i o n statement of 657 r e p o r t i n g member banks i n l e a d i n g c i t i e s a s of January 4 shows i n c r e a s e s f o r the week of $423,000,000 i n net demand d e p o s i t s , of $95,000,000 i n time d e p o s i t s , of $198,000,000 i n l o a n s and d i s c o u n t s , and of $40,000*000 i n i n v e s t m e n t s , and a d e c l i n e of $69,000,000 i n b o r rowings from the F e d e r a l r e s e r v e "banks. Loans on s t o c k s and bonds, i n c l u d i n g U. S. Government o b l i g a t i o n s , were $223,000,000 above t h e December 28 t o t a l a t a l l r e p o r t i n g banks, i n c r e a s e s of $180,000,000 b e i n g shown f o r the Mew York d i s t r i c t , of $24,000,000 f o r the P h i l a d e l p h i a d i s t r i c t , and of $11,000,000 f o r the Chicago d i s t r i c t .
