STATEMENT FOR THE PRESS Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System January 4, 1337* For immediate r e l e a s e Condition of Weekly Reporting Member Banks in 101 Leading C i t i e s The condition statement of weekly r e p o r t i n g member banks in 101 leading c i t i e s on December 30 shows a decrease of $10,000,000 in t o t a l loans and investments, an increase of $24,000,000 i n time d e p o s i t s , and decreases of $68,000,000 in deposits credited to domestic banks and $41,000,000 i n balances with domestic banks. Loans to brokers and d e a l e r s in Mew York City increased $8,000,000, loans to brokers and d e a l e r s o u t s i d e Hew York increased $9,000,000, and loans on s e c u r i t i e s to o t n e r s (except banks) declined $5,000,000. Holdings of acceptances and commerc i a l paper bought increased $5,000,000, r e a l e s t a t e loans increased $1,000,000, and loans to banks declined $12,000,000. "Other loans" increased $13,000,000 in the Cleveland d i s t r i c t , $7,000,000 in the Philadelphia d i s t r i c t and $13,000,000 a t a l l reporting member banks. Holdings of United S t a t e s Government d i r e c t o b l i g a t i o n s declined $62,000,000 in tne Hew York d i s t r i c t and $49,000,000 a t a l l r e p o r t i n g member banks, and increased ,000,000 in the Cleveland d i s t r i c t . Holdings of o b l i g a t i o n s f u l l y guaranteed by the United S t a t e s Government declined $2,000,000.
